When it came time to replace the aging carpet in the Dixon Fitness Center, Cabrini College Assistant Director of Recreation, Orlin Jespersen, had an easy decision to make. By choosing Regupol America's AktivPro and AktivLok recycled rubber modular flooring tiles, he was able to select a product that combined the durability, sustainability and ease-of-maintenance he needed in one amazing solution.
"Carpet just didn't make sense," said Jesperson. "It was difficult to keep clean, and any spills or leaks caused damage. We also needed a tougher floor that could handle dropped weights and major stress." For a school with a demanding sports program and hundreds of students using the fitness center daily, there really needed to be a better solution. With Regupol AktivPro and AktivLok installed, the college can now worry less about cleaning the old, worn carpet and more about providing a top notch training facility for its students and the community.
Abacus Sports Installations Ltd., Lancaster, PA, installed special order Blue Blitz AktivLok in the heavy lifting and free-weight area, and standard Gray Ghost Aktiv Pro underneath the cardio equipment. Before any tiles were put down, the existing carpet was removed and any additional adhesive was blasted off of the floor by Abacus. The Regupol tiles were then put down directly on top of the sub-floor without any underlayment material, allowing the installation to go quickly. Loose-laid in an offset pattern, the new and improved floor not only looks great but it provides the inherent shock absorption that is associated with Regupol products, which has translated into fewer complaints from downstairs neighbors.
"The overall look is working out really well, as all of the equipment is blue and gray, matching the new floor. It is much cleaner and much more polished looking," added Jespersen. "We would definitely use Regupol and Abacus again, and are extremely happy with the results."
